Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about this work: who it is for, why patterns persist and what actually changes them. White Space Leadership was founded by Jenni Winter-Leach, a coach with more than 20 years working with high performers, from CEOs and law firm partners to airline pilots and Team GB athletes. She works with established business owners using the Reset and Rewire Method. The work is grounded in nature, sometimes with horses.

The Overdrive Pattern

Why can't I switch off from my business, even when things are going well?

Because the pattern is not in your diary, it is in your nervous system. After years of carrying responsibility, your system learns to treat constant scanning as normal. Even on a good day the mind keeps asking what is next and what could go wrong. That is a trained state, not a personality trait. It can be changed.

Why do successful business owners still procrastinate and doubt themselves?

Procrastination, imposter syndrome and fear of failure in established business owners are rarely knowledge problems. They are protective patterns running beneath conscious thought. The business grew but the internal operating system did not update. That is why capable people reread one email four times and still do not send it.

Why Change Does Not Stick

Why do old patterns come back after coaching or therapy?

Insight alone changes what you know, not what your body does under pressure. If the work stays at the level of thinking, the underlying stress response is untouched, so the pattern returns the moment load increases. Lasting change happens when the nervous system learns a different response, not just a different explanation.

What is the Reset and Rewire Method?

The Reset and Rewire Method is a five stage approach developed by coach Jenni Winter-Leach for changing patterns at the level where change sticks. The stages are Reveal, Reset, Reprogram, Rewire and Reclaim. The work moves from identifying what is really driving a pattern through to embedding a new response under real pressure.

Can you think your way out of chronic stress?

No. You cannot think your way out of a pattern that thought did not create. Research published in PLOS ONE in 2015 by Teixeira and colleagues found that 90 percent of chronically stressed executives showed measurable cognitive impairment, affecting clear thinking, decision making, accuracy and reaction time. The stressed brain is the wrong tool for fixing itself.

Decisions

What is decision fatigue in business owners?

Decision fatigue is the measurable decline in decision quality that follows a high volume of choices. Business owners often make hundreds of decisions a day, so by evening the brain defaults to avoidance, impulse or postponement. The pattern shows up as circling the same big decision while clearing easy small ones.

Why do capable people circle the same decision for months?

Because the block is rarely a lack of information. A decision that keeps returning usually carries a threat the nervous system is avoiding, such as visibility, conflict, loss or getting it wrong. More research and more spreadsheets cannot resolve a threat response. That is why the same decision resurfaces at 3am untouched.

What does an unmade decision actually cost?

An unmade decision drains a business quietly. It consumes mental capacity daily, delays everything downstream and keeps energy tied to the same loop for weeks or months. Most business owners can name one decision they have circled for over a quarter. The cost is momentum, not just the outcome itself.

Nature and Clarity

Does time in nature actually improve decision making?

Yes. The effect starts quickly. Natural environments reduce demands on directed attention, allowing the brain systems used for judgement and prioritisation to recover. A problem circled for weeks can resolve within an hour outdoors. The insight is the start point though, not the fix. Unless the pattern that created the noise is changed, the noise comes back.

Do I need a retreat, or is a shorter pause enough?

Neither works on its own. Retreats feel restorative, but without changing what drives the overdrive, the old pattern returns within days of being back at the desk. A single deliberate pause in nature is enough to reveal what is really going on. Lasting change then comes from rewiring that pattern at the root, not from adding recovery time to an already full diary.

Working with Horses

What happens on a leadership day with horses?

There is no riding and no horse experience is needed. The work happens on the ground in the horses' environment. Through quiet interactions you observe how the horses respond to you, which reveals your internal state, leadership patterns and how you hold pressure. The rest of the day connects what surfaced to your life and business.

Why do horses give such accurate feedback?

Horses do not respond to titles, status or success measures. As prey animals they read the nervous system and emotional state of the person in front of them, instantly and without judgement. They notice presence, tension and congruence, which makes their responses a remarkably accurate mirror of what is happening beneath the surface.
